I've been making art on and off since a young age, but by my 8th grade year it became my greatest passion. I've always been inspired by bright colors and bold comics, and one thing I've always held close to my art is my culture. I joined my first highschool art class my sophmore year, and the majority of my work rooted back to my Puerto Rican and Taíno roots. I've spent a great amount of time learning about my own culutre, especially that of teh indigenous Taíno and Afro Latino culture of the island. At the start of my junior year, I began to work on my AP art portfolio, which all resides around traditional Puerto Rican culture and how it is seen today.
There are many ways people can represent themselves, and I find that the best way I can show people who I am is through my art. Through each piece my goal is always for the viewer to feel a certain emotion and for them to connect to it even if they may not be familiar with the context. I love to do this through the use of color, detail, composition, and expressions, something that is heavily shown throghout my portfolio.
I use a great amount of references, usually ones I've taken myself or some I find on the internet. Most of my inspiration comes from comic artists, different environments, and Puerto Rican culture. I often work with traditional art and first create a rough thumbnail sketch, yet when working with online programs I like to start from scratch.
